Burqa fabrics: woven apparel

For the woven apparel course, I chose the burqa as the religious restrictions give me the challenge to innovate. At the same time, there are so many possibilities in the material of the fabric, the colours that can be used on the black base, as well as the need for more ergonomic fabrics for the burqa. Considering it is functional and symbolic apparel, I hoped to do justice to the same.
My first collection of woven fabrics has a blue overtone- a commonly used colour. The washed stripes give a pleasant break from monotones; wtih the constraints being dark colours, minimum contrast, and an integration of form and back gound.
The second range of fabrics was made keeping in mind the restriction of the colour black.
The khand weave gives an interesting self texture and a border to embellish the burqa at sleeves, neck and the hem.
Twills give a nice fall to the fabric, and allow the long burqa to swish elegantly while walking.
